1. Where is the Gaiyo Card valid?
Yes, the Gaiyo Card can be used throughout the Netherlands with all transport operators that accept the OV-chipkaart. This applies to:
- Trains (NS and regional transport operators such as Arriva, Keolis, Qbuzz, Connexxion).
- Buses, trams, and metros in all cities and regions.
2. How does it work in practice?
- You check in and out with the Gaiyo Card at the gates or card readers with the pink OV-chipkaart logo.
- When transferring to another transport company, you must check out with the first transport company and check in again with the next.
3. Are there any exceptions?
Yes, a few:
- A surcharge is mandatory for travel on the Intercity Direct (Schiphol – Rotterdam). You can purchase this at the surcharge kiosk or as an e-ticket via the Gaiyo App.
- The Gaiyo Card is not valid for international trains (such as Eurostar, Thalys/Eurostar, IC Brussels, and ICE to Germany). You will always need a separate international ticket for these.
- Domestic travel on the ICE is surcharge-free and therefore permitted.
4. What else should I pay attention to?
- Always check in and out, even when transferring between different carriers.
- Check whether your employer has imposed certain restrictions or agreements on the use of the Gaiyo Card (e.g., business use only or commuting).
In short: the Gaiyo Card can be used anywhere in the Netherlands where the OV-chipkaart is valid. Exceptions only apply to international trains and specific surcharge routes.
